Livraria Canuto was founded in São Paulo on March 30th, 1964.

The very next day, the country was surprised by a military takeover, and we were forced to close our doors for the only time in these 45 years.

Since then, the founders of the company – Hannelore Kersten and Knut Schendel (married
to Mira Schendel, a well-known graphic artist who designed the first company logo) have worked tirelessly to promote the services provided by Livraria Canuto, always relying
on the help of Hannelore´s son, Jonny Wolff.

The name of the company has its origins in the Brazilian pronunciation of Knut´s name.

Currently the company is managed by Hannelore’s granddaughter, Tatiana Wolff, the third generation of booksellers in the family.
